Low calorie diets can have a detrimental impact on weight loss.
This is because our body goes into ’starvation mode’. This is the body’s way of protecting us from starvation. It therefore becomes very efficient at burning the calories provided and as a result our metabolism slows down.
When the body is in starvation mode it utilises muscle tissue to provide calories so instead of burning fat, you are burning muscle. Loss of muscle slows down your metabolic rate and therefore has a further negative effect on your metabolism.
Rather than dramatically reduce your calories, look at your overall diet and start to cut out the more fatty foods. Overall cut down your calorie intake by 10% to start with.
