England - Should They Hang Their Heads in Shame?

We all have our views on yesterday’s football match.  Personally, I am of the view that the players are overpaid and many of them less interested in football than they are in the lifestyle and stardom it brings.   They were outclassed by the Germans, there is no doubt about it.  Our defenders could not match the pace of the opposition and their marking was appauling.

There is a Lampard disallowed goal which was totally ridiculous.  You didn’t need to be level with the goal line to see that the ball had crossed the line.

I gather they didn’t like the fact they were only allowed one beer the night before a game.  We are talking about international athletes in the biggest sporting tournament in the World, they shouldn’t want a beer.  In my view, Capello should stay, those players need discipline and continuity.   It’s always easy to blame the manager but the players need to take some responsibililty for the poor performance throughout the tournament.

I know what it takes to reach high levels in the sport of cycling, I see pictures of Lance Armstrong climbing snow covered mountains in the winter.  Cycling is a sport where only the very best will earn well but requires hours and hours of investment.  Training, even to be a good club cyclist, is tough and intense.

Perhaps now we should turn our interests to the Tour de France and support Olympic Gold Medalist, Bradley Wiggins, in his quest for a podium placing.   Go Andrew Murray in Wimbledon.

Is it about time to change our national sport to something we are good at?
