Girl Power

It keeps getting better.  I set this morning’s boot campers a challenge to run a 5km route.  Needless to say they were very nervous about the prospect but they did it!

Sometimes you just need a nudge.  It’s so often a case of self belief.  I don’t suggest people do things I don’t believe they can do.  Now onto the ‘Race for Life’ for these ladies and of course an invite to the Bowditchfit 10km event later in the year.

Tips for getting a good night’s sleep

Here are some tips to help you get a good night’s sleep:-

  • Your body likes consistency when it comes to sleep, therefore try to go to sleep at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning.  Don’t sleep in at weekends or have late nights as it can take your body time to readjust to the changes.
  • Get some sunshine (don’t forget your SPF) - this causes the body to release the hormone melatonin, which helps you to sleep.
  • Avoid caffeine after 4 pm.  Stimulants can impact sleep - this includes cigarettes and alcohol.
  • Don’t watch TV in bed, save it for the living room.
  • Don’t take your phone into the bedroom.
  • Allow yourself time to relax before bedtime, perhaps some chilled music or a relaxing bath.  Ensure you turn off any computers at least an hour before bedtime.
  • Ensure your bedroom is dark - this helps your body’s natural rhythms. Make any changes necessary to keep your room dark for the hours you are asleep.
  • Keep your bedroom at a comfortable temperature.
  • Maintain a healthy weight - being overweight can cause you to snore which can upset your sleep and certainly your partner’s sleep.
  • Exercise on a daily basis but not too close to bedtime.
