Have you had your Onions?

Onions (Allium cepa) belong to the lily family.  This is the same family as chives, leeks, garlic, and shallots.

Onions are a very good source of Chromium.  Chromium is reported to boost the action of insulin, which is the hormone that breaks down sugar molecules in the body and therefore lowers the glucose levels in the blood stream hence reducing the risk of diabetes.  Chromium deficiency often arises due to the consumption of high quantities of refined sugars and due to lack of exercise.  Our bodies cannot produce Chromium under its own steam so we need to take it in through our diet.

Regular consumption of onions is reported to lower cholesterol levels.  As if you need more convincing to eat them, onions are rich in flavonoids, which are known to protect against cardiovascular disease.

Tuesday Evening’s Boot Camp

We will be meeting at 7.15 pm at Saumarez Park for Boot Camp on Tuesday 6 March.  As the sun will be going down (how romantic) it will be getting cold so ensure you dress appropriately.
