Tuesday’s boot camp - cancelled

Due to advice from the police not to go out unless necessary, tonight’s boot camp is cancelled.  Let’s hope we get some warmer weather soon.

Diabetes Type II - Added Complications

Diabetes is a serious condition which can impact the sufferor’s health in many ways.

If your blood glucose levels are higher than normal over a long period of time, your blood vessels can become damaged and result in complications such as:-

  • Kidney damage which can develop into kidney failure.
  • Atheroma (aka ‘furring or hardening of the arteries’). This can result in other health problems eg heart attacks, angina, stroke and poor circulation.
  • Foot problems as a result of poor circulation and nerve damage
  • Eye problems which can result in impaired vision.
  • Nerve damage.
  • Impotence.

The risk of developing these complications is reduced if other ‘risk factors’ are dealt with such as high blood pressure, stress, alcohol consumption and smoking.  The affect of Diabetes on each individual varies and can depend on the length of time you have had the disease and the severity of the disease, ie how far from normal your blood sugar levels are.
