Sugar is the root of all evil

Sugar is just a step away from fat.  Food labels can be confusing as they claim that a product is low in fat but what they don’t tell you , unless you can read between the lines on the label, is that it is most likely high in sugar.  Eating foods high in sugar causes your insulin levels to rise, your body then stores the excess sugar as glucose.  A while later, if you don’t burn off that glucose, it turns into fat.

When you see a product which claims to be low in fat, look at the food label.  Does it have lots of sugary carbohydrates?  If so, then it is high in sugar.

Sugar comes in many different names which can be confusing.  Here are some to look out for:

  • Maltose
  • Molasses
  • Syrups (corn, rice, golden)
  • Glucose
  • Sucrose
  • Honey
  • Lactose
  • Sorbitol
  • Rice extract
  • Malt and malt extract
  • Fructose
  • Mannitol
