Curb those cravings!

Here are some tips for keeping those cravings at bay or in the event that a craving strikes, how to deal with it:

  • Don’t keep stocked up with empty foods which provide limited or no nutritional benefit.  If the food you are craving is not in the cupboard you are likely to eat something else or nothing at all.
  • Be prepared for food cravings by having some healthy snacks at hand such as hummus and raw carrot or celery, oatcakes, fruit and nuts.

  • Ensure you have a varied diet.  By consuming the same or similar foods each day, you are likely to miss out on nutrients which will cause cravings.
  • Ensure you keep your energy levels stocked up by eating small meals throughout the day.  Importantly, start with a satisfying breakfast such as poached egg on wholemeal toast or porridge.
  • Consume from every major food category with each meal, ie protein, carbohydrates and fat.  Just a note on “fat”, this is often contained within the protein portion of your meal.  Also ensure you consume fibre as this has the ability to fill you up.
