A week in the life of a personal trainer…

It’s not over yet but so far it has been a busy ole week for me.  Last weekend I was in the UK racing the National 25 mile time trial and got home Sunday evening.

Monday morning I was up at 5.30 am to get ready for my first appointment of the week at 6.30 am.  I met my client, Andy Phillips, at his home and we went for a bike ride around town doing lots of hills.  We have gradually worked up to this session, having trained Andy for the past 3 months.  I have to say, Andy really impresses me with his efforts, weight loss and the fitness improvements he has made.

Tuesday included boot camp where we did some interval running on the cliffs plus some work with resistance bands and the medicine balls, then it was off to train the Island women’s football team.  I’ve been training them for the past 3 weeks but ideally I would have liked much longer with them to prepare for the Island Games.

Wednesday included two presentations on nutrition and fitness at Collas Day who I must say were a very receptive audience.  Hopefully I have given them some exercise and home equipment ideas as well as motivated them to make some lifestyle changes.  If you would like me to come to your work to do a presentation, feel free to get in touch.

Oh yes, amongst this busy ole week I have been doing my own cycle training.  I usually do that first thing and sometimes later in the day too….and I wonder where my days go, hmmm?

More personal training on Thursday and today as well as some less exciting paperwork.  Tomorrow I have boot camp and personal training and then on Sunday it’s the 25 mile time trial inter-insular.

Life is never dull!

Superfoods - An Apple a Day….

Over the next few days, I will be giving you some details on some of the key super foods.   Today we start with the lunchbox favourite, an apple.

Apples are packed full of antioxidants such as vitamin C and quercetin, both of which boost the body’s immune system.  Quercetin is also a natural anti-histamine, and anti-inflammatory.  Research indicates that quercetin helps to prevent cancer.  It combats the damage caused by the bad cholesterol and therefore reduces the risk of heart disease.Apples also contain pectin, a soluble fibre, which helps to relieve constipation and lowers levels of bad cholesterol. The great thing about apples is that there is one for every palate, sweet, sharp or sour, crunchy or chewy.
