The goodness in bacon

Following Lars’ question, I thought I would back up my comments with some details on the benefits of eating bacon.  Firstly it is an excellent source of protein and it contains many vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin A, Vitamin D, B12, B2, niacin, zinc, selenium and copper.

Bacon is also a great source of iron.  Women tend to have low iron levels which can lead to anaemia.  Therefore ensuring you get sufficient iron in your diet is particularly important.

Of course, like any meat, bacon should be eaten in moderation and you should remove the rind.

Mood Food

Brighten up your day with these “happy foods”:-

Low Fat Cottage Cheese - sets off bedtime horomes and therefore contributes towards good sleep.  Put some on oatcakes for a great taste with steady energy release.  Also a good source of protein.

Cauliflower - Loaded with vitamin C.  You need to keep Vitamin C levels topped up to maintain a feeling of wellbeing.  Vitamin C also helps us to absorb iron, particularly important for women.

Seasame Seeds - these little seeds contain threonine, which  helps to combar depression.  They go great in salads or on top of fruit spread.
