Saturday’s Boot Camp
15/02/2009 by admin.
Hi Folks
Saturday’s boot camp will be held at L’ancresse. This is the same venue as we used back in January.
Directions:- Drive through the road opposite L’ancresse Lodge Hotel which is sign posted “L’ancresse” and “Kiosk”. Follow the lane to the right and we shall meet in that car park.
If I need to postpone the session due to bad weather I will post on my blog that morning.
Don’t forget to dress appropriately for the conditions - with gloves, hat, waterproof. Also bring some drink with you.
Valentine Foods for Love
14/02/2009 by admin.
I’ve noted some “love” foods below, some of which might surprise you. Well, I had to really; it is Valentine’s Day after all.
Banana – no, not because of its shape (well perhaps for some) but because of its soft creamy texture. It has an enzyme called bromelain which has been shown to enhance male performance. Go guys!!
Oysters – no surprise that I have included these I am sure. Did you know that some oysters repeatedly change their sex from male to female and revert back – how odd. It is therefore suggested that the oyster allows one to experience the masculine and feminine sides of love. I guess you won’t know until you’ve tried!
Radish – perhaps not expected to be on my “love” food list. Radishes are reported to be an aphrodisiac by Egyptian pharaohs. It is thought that this is because its spicy taste arouses the palate.
Asparagus - the shape of some foods plays a part in determining whether it is an aphrodisiac. However, asparagus has more to offer than its apparent suggestive form (not that I ever looked at an asparagus in that way). These contain Vitamin E, which are believed to stimulate sex hormones and therefore contribute to a healthy sex life and increased sexual powers. Don’t eat too much though as it can make your urine smell! Hmm, not so sexy huh.
Garlic - it might cause smelly breath but there are so many good points

I am frequently told off by my other half for eating too much garlic. I especially like garlic on Mike’s homemade pizza (which I might add is an occasional treat). However, despite the odour it is very tasty and, not only that, it offers many health benefits. It is packed with vitamins and minerals such as calcium, potassium and zinc not to mention the good cholesterol (HDL).
Garlic acts as a medicine against lung illnesses such as coughs, asthma and hoarseness. It also helps regulate blood pressure, low or high. Garlic helps to loosen plaque from the artery walls and plays a part in regulating blood sugar levels. It can help to thin the blood too.
Part of the onion family, garlic helps to strengthen the body’s immune system against allergies and colds. It can act as a decongestant and expectorant too. Now, how to deal with that bad breath. This can be difficult because the smell comes from your lungs not your mouth and it also seeps out of your pores. Advice is to drink lemon juice or eat a few slices of lemon.

Tonight’s Boot Camp (assessment day)
10/02/2009 by admin.
Hi Folks
Well done tonight. It was great to see you working hard and to see you improving on your previous bests from the last assessments. Keep working at it and you will see further improvements.
There was still time for a laugh too. I can see I am going to have to keep a close eye on some of our new participants (mentioning no names).
Which are the bad fats?
10/02/2009 by admin.
So many people are confused by fat which is hardly surprising considering that some fat is good and some is bad. Fats to avoid or have in moderation or hydrogenated fat, saturated fat and trans fats. A good rule of thumb is that bad fat should not contribute to more than 10% of your daily food intake.
Packaged food often contains these bad fats so check out packets for these.
More information on fats later.

End of First Boot Camp
07/02/2009 by admin.
Well done for those that completed the first boot camp. To think we only had to cancel one session (and that was an indoor session due to the snow). It’s been a tough winter with so many people coming down with coughs, colds and flu but you are a hardy lot and have battled on.
I have been impressed by the efforts that everyone has put in and the competitive spirit shown, yet I think it is fair to say that we have had plenty of fun.
Next Tuesday 10 February is the start of the next boot camp so bring along your form and get stuck in.
Registration Form 10 February onwards
For anyone not sure whether to join up because you don’t feel fit or feel self conscious, both groups are great with friendly people - the camps have a relaxed atmosphere and most importantly everyone works to their own levels, therefore if you need a time out, you take one.
Foods for the Skin
06/02/2009 by admin.
Carrots are great for the skin – they contain beta-carotene, which the body converts to Vitamin A. If you are lacking in Vitamin A, this could cause dry skin. They also contain Vitamin C which is a powerful antioxidant and fights against free radicals which cause premature aging of the skin. Avocados are high in monounsaturated fat – this is a “healthy fat” and is needed by the body. Avocados contain omega-3 fatty acids which help to keep our skin looking young. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants which help to reduce the risk of damage caused to the skin by the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Not only this, but it is rich in Vitamins C, D and K and some essential minerals such as calcium, zinc and magnesium. Green tea is reported to help with the symptoms of acne and eczema.
